Cool Runnings Catamaran Cruises
In one of our Cool Runnings Catamaran Cruises’ blog posts we took a look at why the sea around Jamaica is just that special kind of blue. Anyone who is a visitor or has lived on our island will also have noticed something special about our sky. Not only the intense blue and the high drifting cumulus clouds, but nearing the end of the day you will have looked out to sea or up at the hills to admire another of our wonders; our spectacular sunsets.
Cool Runnings Ocho Rios – Jamaican Sunsets
But what Cool Runnings Catamaran Cruises is here to explain is why our sunsets in Jamaica are so beautiful. It all has to do, we read, with the angle of the earth and something called atmospheric refraction that shifts the light as we see it towards the red range of the spectrum.
When the white light of the sun comes to travel through more of the atmosphere, as we see it lower in the sky, the blue and green parts of the spectrum are literally stripped out and what comes to our eyes are the colors with longer wavelength reds, oranges and yellows.
Add to this the gently darkening sky, some clouds lined with shimmering gold and there you have it, a sunset made for our paradise in Jamaica. Then, listen for the slight crescendo of the whistling frogs in the trees, look for the “peeniwallies” or fireflies silently flashing their lights, the soft tinkling of ice in your glass and there you are, rustling coconut palms, sand between your toes.

So as not to miss the sunset in Jamaica you can even enter Sunset in Ocho Rios and you will find the times! On 10 June 2016, for example, the sunset in Ocho Rios Jamaica was at 18.43.
We could even recommend getting up early in the morning to see the sun rise and to feel the soft breeze that gently blows across the pale waves, see the pastel colored clouds as the sky turns from pale pinky yellow to blue. Dip in the sea before breakfast and after head off to enjoy one of Cool Runnings Catamaran Cruises special cruises.
